Recycle, a small word with a big meaning

You CAN make a difference

Hello there! I just wanted to share a very motivational story with you. The other day my friend and I put a containter in the cafeteria of a school, for kids to put their used lunch bags in. We explained to the students (in our speech) and they seemed to really understand the reason the container was there. What my friend and I said was that, we put the container there for students to put their used lunch bags in to be recycled, instead of putting them in a garbage, to be put in a landfill in the future. The reason is, on average, that school alone throws away about seventy two thousand lunch bags a year (we did the research).

I was shocked to see that within about three hours (six lunch periods split between three grades), not only was the container filled to the top; there were also lunch bags that were on the table next to the container, because they couldn’t all fit in to the container. I don’t think I could have been any happier to find this out. I was so surprised, yet so thrilled to have had this idea turned into a working reality. This container is going to stay in the school until May, so I am so excited to see how many bags we collect. We collected about seventy five on the first day alone, so I hope to be over twelve hundred in a few months. Hey, a person can have their goals can’t they?

We also posted flyers in different classrooms within the school, so that kids in the classrooms can be reminded daily to recylce. Some teachers were so interested they told us that they would talk to the kids about our project, it was very exciting.

I think that not only is this a realistic project, but also a very helpful one to the environment. Maybe you would want to consider putting one of these containers at a school in your town. They are not expensive, and you can buy them at a Target near you. Talk to you soon!

P.S.-Check out the site, RecycleCity, it has a lot to say about recycling. As I was researching I found it and it’s great. Not only does it have everything you need to know about recycling, it tells what you can recycle from each place. For instance, at a pet shop, a school, etc. Click around and learn! =)

Everybody can help. But it takes us all.

Today I met with one of my friends and we chatted about recycling. We made flyers last month and today we photo-copied the flyers on to recycled paper. I was very angry to find out that most of the paper sold is not recycled, and I think that this is very upsetting. I don’t understand why people care so much more about saving money than about saving the trees. You can ruin the natural beauty of the earth, just like you can lose money. We are constantly getting rid of the beautiful sites in nature, piece by piece.

We are cutting down trees to make paper, but once we use this valuable paper, we go on and throw it out without thinking. It took a lot of natural resources to make just one sheet of paper, so we should be recycling them as much as we can. Once we throw it out, it goes into a landfill and can never be used again. When we recycle it, the paper goes to a factory and is made into new, clean, recycled paper. When I went on to the Staples website, I was surprised to see that they only have a few cases of recycled paper, but many of non-recycled paper.

Instead of buying the non-recycled paper for a little bit less,  pay the price to help save the environment. Thanks!

P.S.-If you don’t believe me, try it. www.Staples.com

A new year’s resolution that can affect the world…

Happy New Year! Can you believe that it is 2007? Wow. Do you have any resolutions? I know I do. There is one that I would love to share with you. This resolution is something that everybody in the entire earth can help with, including you and me. I can’t do this alone-I need your help! Well here it is, I am going to try to recycle every paper bag that I use. You may tell me that this is not a resolution, in fact, it is more of a goal. But either way you look at it, it is a goal worth keeping and one that you should consider setting. Another one of my goals for 2007 is to spread the word, for example, by doing this. Telling people to recycle paper bags. You may think that a few paper bags won’t affect your life, but trust me in the long term it will. We all need to work together to make a difference. You  have nothing to lose, so please, do the world a favor and recycle those paper bags and tell your friends and family. Talk to you soon. -Larry Checkers…By the way you can call me Chex, thats what my friends call me and you aer my friend too! Leave a commentt =). -Chex
